The “frizzies” are a problem for women with naturally curly or excessively dry hair. Split ends and parched and ragged tresses can make attaining the simplest hairstyle a chore. No matter how severe your frizzled and dry your hair may be, there are several tactics you can use to control it. Although heredity plays a part in your frizzy hair, most of the culprits that contribute to dried out unmanageable hair stem from personal hair habits, so get ready to discipline yourself if you want a full healthy head of hair.
Nix the Products and Lifestyle Choices That Cause Frizzy Hair If you’re an outdoorsy gal, all that time in the sun and surf robs your hair of its natural moisture and leaves it damaged and dry. Use hair products with a high SPF factor before going out in the sun for long periods. Keep your locks covered with a scarf or floppy hat, and invest in a hot oil treatment every few weeks. Try products like Alter EGO Hot Oil Treatment with Garlic after the fact or use Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil as a precautionary measure, rubbing it into your hair before going out in the sun.
If you love primping and styling your hair with curling irons, blow dryers, styling gels, mousses and chemical hair dyes, all that beauty comes at a price. Too many elaborate hair styles results in frizzy, unkempt hair that looks good now but will look-and feel-bad later. Cut down on hair dryers and other heated appliances. If you can’t survive without your heated curlers, apply a hot oil treatment or naturally moisturizing hair masque using plantain, burdock or shea oil before styling your tresses.
Keep Split Ends Under Control Get your hair cut on a regular basis. This will prevent frizziness from multiplying. Don’t let more than two months go by without a visit to the salon for a trim.
Save Money on Shampoo, Spend More on Conditioner Resist the urge to lather up everytime you’re in the bath or shower. Shampoo twice a week to maintain hair’s pH balance and keep needed moisture in the scalp and follicles. Condition your hair after you wash it, using a product geared for your specific type of hair, i.e. color treated, sun damaged, blonde, or normal. Herbal Essences makes a great inexpensive line of shampoos and conditioners with names like Color Me Happy and Hello Hydration-and I know from firsthand experience that they give your hair that just out of the salon silkiness.
