Support Stylists Around the Country & Sign the License Mobility Petition

Salon professionals face several state regulations that prohibit them from practicing their craft and conducting business when moving across state lines. License mobility allows a licensed professional in good standing – whose documentation in education and experience is substantial – to be able to qualify for licensure from one state to another without further examination. In support of this effort, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) is working to help stylists relocate from one state to another with minimal interruption to their ability to practice their trade.

“The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) continues to actively advocate on behalf of all beauty industry professionals concerning license mobility,” stated Sam Levyas, PBA’s Director of Government Affairs.

Log onto probeauty.org/licensemobility to sign the petition and support stylists all over the nation.

Join the Professional Beauty Association and Take Capitol Hill By Storm

Join fellow beauty professionals and PBA members as they storm Washington D.C. for PBA’s annual Capitol Hill Visit!  Salon professionals from around the country come to Capitol Hill to educate legislators and key staffers about the concerns and needs of the professional beauty industry – they also spend the morning visiting with their local representatives in Congress to talk about all the great things happening in the industry.  Join PBA members and beauty industry professionals from across the country on Capitol Hill, September 10, 2008.

During PBA’s Capitol Hill Visits, representatives from independent and chain salons, day spas, cosmetology schools, beauty product manufacturers, distributors and the industry’s associations first meet with their own legislators to educate them about the professional salon industry’s reach and importance in their own Congressional districts.  Later in the day, they continue the conversation, while providing hair cuts, mini manicures, chair massages, makeup application and brow shaping services to further demonstrate what happens in the nation’s hundreds of thousands of salons every day across the country.

PBA will work with interested attendees to make appointments to meet with their Members of Congress and/or their professional staff.  PBA will also provide attendees with talking points about the issues that matter to them and their business, such as mandatory leave regulations, merchant credit card fees, business depreciation and tip tax fairness.

Style Stat

Salon goers care about a stylist’s level of education. While 86% feel it’s important for a stylist to have technical training, 92% feel it’s extremely important for stylists to be qualified. (Source: PBA 2007 Salon and Day Spa Consumer Trend Report)
