going greenThe green movement is in full effect and your hair is not excluded. People of all ages, races, and genders are actively seeking raw, or natural, hair, skin, and body products. In fact, not only are people starting to drive cars that are better for the environment, but they are wearing clothes that are environmentally friendly also. Furthermore, stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are replacing our old grocery stores by providing us with a large assortment of the healthy products that we desire. These stores are not only providing organic foods that nourish our bodies, but also offer a variety of natural hair care products to nurture our lovely heads of hair.

There are a growing number of all natural hair care products on the market these days. One of my favorites is Simply Organic hair care products. They only use the highest quality organic ingredients and keep the chemical preservatives and lathering agents out of the bottle.

Many of these eco friendly and all natural products were not readily available to us until recently. It seems the price point is right on target also.  Most of these products are in the same price range as your usual commodities. And since going green may not only help your hair and the environment, but also your peace of mind, now there is no excuse!

Many celebs have jumped on the green bandwagon in the past several years as well. Well known stars like Cameron Diaz and Leonardo Di Caprio started the mainstream buzz for going green, and they are not the only public figures that are passionate about saving our planet.   Countless celebrities are making an effort to educate the public about the benefits of being environmentally conscious, including Kate Hudson, who has recently partnered with L.A. celeb hairstylist David Babaii to create David Babaii for WildAid, a hair-care line that donates 10 percent of proceeds to the animal-protection organization.

We the people of the planet Earth are entitled to beauty, and furthermore, healthy beauty. We not only have the right to maintain our own health and beauty, but also to continue to protect the well-being of our planet and every living thing on it.  We have a responsibility to ourselves and the world we live on to use products that are not only good for us but are also good for our environment.  “Green Hair” may be the perfect way for you to start doing your part and continue this grand movement.  Going green never looked so fabulous!

It's such a lovely thing the masses going green. More people are finally taking the time to look at the ingredients list in the foods that they eat and the products they use, including their hair care products. And for the especially obsessive, the internet allows us to Google all the individual ingredients to see if they might give us tumors. With hair care products more people are taking care to find products that are paraben-free, sulphate-free and cruelty-free, are ridding themselves of aerosol cans, and are looking for products less in touch with R&D labs and more in touch with the various worldwide agricultural communities.

It seems like in the past few years a cadre of natural hair care products have emerged and it can sometimes be overwhelming making a switch from the usual products to something that uses natural and organic and even free-traded or locally grown ingredients. Regardless, our hair and our land are grateful to those of us who have made the switch.
