Aside from prom, homecoming is one of the biggest events a teenager has to look forward to. It is a chance to show how you have matured over the summer and an excellent way to start off a new school year. A lot of work can go into deciding which hairstyle you want to wear on homecoming night, so with a little bit of planning and research you are sure to look great.
Some Things to Consider
• How formal is the event? - Find out if the homecoming is going to be a formal event or a more laid back event. If you are having a casual homecoming you don’t want to wear an extravagant updo because it would not look appropriate.
• Where will it be held? - If your homecoming is going to be held outdoors, you want to make sure your hairstyle can withstand wind and possible rain.
• Don’t wait until the last minute - Make sure you try your hairstyle a few weeks before the event so if you don’t like it you will have time to fix it. This also applies to coloring. If you decide to color your hair make sure there is time to change it if you are not happy with the result. If you dye your hair the day of the event and decide you need to fix the color, another dye job can damage your hair.
• What outfit will you wear? - You can accessorize and style your hair depending on what you will be wearing. You can add barrettes, a headband or even highlights to match your dress.
• Updo? - This is one of the more common hairstyles for homecoming. The most important factor to consider when thinking about an updo is the shape of your face. If your face shape is square or round you should wear your updo high on the crown of your head to make your face appear longer. If your face is long or rectangular you should wear a hairstyle that fills out the sides. This will create a fuller look and your face won’t appear as narrow. Forehead size is important too. If you have longer forehead you should think about wearing bangs. If your forehead is shorter, having your hair pulled back may be a good look for you.
• Maintenance – Once your hairstyle has been created you do not want it to lose its shape. Bring whatever style products you will need to do any touch up work for your hairstyle. These products may include hairspray, gel, spritz, etc. Check out our gallery of formal, prom and homecoming hairstyles
