Several of my clients, especially the ones that have colored hair used to let their hair “air-dry” instead of blow-drying it. I have explained to them, that this is not a good choice for your hair, your color and mostly your overall style and look.
I often see women in the morning with that “wet look.” This raises the question: “did you not give yourself enough time to get ready in the morning?” At best, it is an unfinished look. Usually within a few hours, their hair is very flat on the top of their head, wet looking and crunchy throughout the rest of the strand, leaving it very unattractive.
Blow-drying your hair is actually better for your hair than it has been in the past. Ionic blow dryers are better for the hair since they control frizz, are less damaging than they used to be and actually give shine. Some blow dryers even come with diffusers, which are great for using on curly hair. Best of all, you don’t need to spend very much money on a good blow dryer these days; they are very affordable.
Keep this in mind because when you wash your hair and let it air dry. The water remains in your hair and fades your color especially at the ends. When you are in the salon and the color is done processing; stylists use water and shampoo to rinse it out. Your hair is like a sponge. The sponge stays wet and whether your hair is colored or not, your hair will look lighter at the ends, undone and faded in most cases. The compounds of water break down and wash out the properties of color. This also causes brassiness in blondes, redheads and brunettes.
If it seems like your color is not staying true and your ends are more frizzy than usual, blow-dry your hair when it is wet and use a styling aide such as a curl product or smoothing product. Keep in mind that blow-drying is actually much better for your hair than air-drying. Schedule more time in the morning or night before and take a little extra time with your hair. You will be glad you did. That extra effort will pay off when you’re getting looks in the coffee line before work.
