Kelly Clarkson hairstyles have ranged from small-town-simple to Hollywood glamour since she became America’s sweetheart after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002.  She has been spotted sporting some of the trendiest hairstyles, including long voluminous locks reminiscent of fellow American Idol winner Katherine McPhee, the poof/pompadour of 2004 & 2005, and most recently the classic bob of 2007 & 2008.  Although she has never been considered a hair-fashion trendsetter, her hairstyles have always been ones to take notice.  Kelly has a round/square face so her hairstyles are generally designed with the objective of creating a more oval-shaped face.  If you have a wide/round/square face shape, then these Kelly Clarkson hairstyles are sure to suit you well.

Kelly’s hair has grown out several inches past her shoulders and has been straightened.  The lighter highlights on the top of her hair and the reddish tint on the bottom are not too dramatic and go really well with her skin tone.  What is really important about this hairstyle is the length.  The long hair creates the illusion of making her face appear more elongated.

Kelly took part in the bob craze of 2007 & 2008 with this classic bob.  Her hair has been dyed blond and has been cut right above her shoulders.  Since she has a rounder face it is important that the bob is longer than some of her other celebrity counter parts.  This hairstyle would not be flattering if it was at chin level because her face would look to circular.  Another important aspect of this hairstyle is the way the hair is framed to her face.  Her hair goes straight down the sides, which cuts down the volume on the sides of her head.  Having volume on the sides would make her face look more round.

Kelly’s hair is in a more homely everyday hairstyle.  Her naturally brown hair is at shoulder length with her bangs sitting across the right side of her face.  What makes this hairstyle work for Kelly are her bangs.  The bangs take out a significant width of her head creating a more oval shaped face.

Kelly’s hair is at shoulder length with the top of her laying flat on her head and the bottom softly curled.  This hairstyle is actually not very suitable for her face shape.  Since her hair on the top is flat and the length just at her shoulders, the volume on the sides makes her face appear wide.  For this hairstyle to look better, her hair should be straight or several inches longer.

This updo has curls on the back and sides with sweeping bangs over the right side of her face.  This hairstyle is very flattering for Kelly’s face shape.  Since the hair is short and not very voluminous on the sides, her face looks narrow.  Also the height of the hair on top and the bangs create a more oval appearance of her face.

Kelly’s hair is dyed a dark brown shade which is a little bit darker than her natural color and her straight shoulder length hair has a hard part down the middle.  The two key factors of this hairstyle are the fact that the hair is straight and the length.  Long straight hair will make a wider face shape look more oval.  Also the hair is framed close to her face, which creates a curtain effect that will enhance the oval appearance.

 Kelly’s dark brown hair is long and flowing with the help of extensions.  The top of her hair is straight and becomes wavy once it gets past her chin level. Even though her hair is voluminous, this hairstyle is good for Kelly’s face shape because the length balances out the width of her face.  This hairstyle is very similar to the one sported by fellow American Idol alum, Katherine McPhee. 

Kelly’s hair has been dyed a lighter shade and is cut just above shoulder length with gentle curls that start around her eye level and work their way down.  This hairstyle would almost not work if not for a few things.  First, the volume on the sides is not too extreme.  Since her hair is not very long, having less volume on the sides will help her face look thinner.  Also, the volume on the top of her head helps her face appear longer.  Finally, her bangs on the right side of her face are covering up some of the width of her face, which adds to the thinning effect.
